  1. Oh, come on, this guy is a clown. He seemed serious enough or the first 15 minutes or so, despite the talking goldfish, but after that point he launches into some wild Von Daniken-level speculation about the future of human evolution.

I mean, anything is possible, sure. But don’t we have enough serious threats to even the short-term survival of humanity right now?

    1. I found the video where that guy goes full Von Daniken.
I’ll include a link, but if that doesn’t work, just go to Youtube and search on –
” The Seventh Experiment: Lacerta Reveals the Truth of our Creation”
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUd4lXM0pwk

He explains how humans were genetically engineered from apes. By aliens.

      1. My favorite technique, look up the author’s background first for anything that attracts yet requires more than 10 minutes reading or video. semi-hidden Government/Corporate Paymasters or signs of insanity are good indicators of when to cut.

  2. The narrator is a crank who presents speculation as science. The internet is full of such nonsense. Shows like this might give a few elites the idea that nuclear war is survivable – but that is doubtful – hard to imagine any elites would watch this crap. Lots of non-science (i.e. nonsense) speculation about use of quantum computer like operations in birds and human brains. AI and quantum computing is a fad — a sales pitch for investors. Not sure what is behind productions of such “speculation science” other than efforts to distract and confuse us, or perhaps get our attention for advertising and tagging our behavior (see Zuboff’s “Age of Surveillance Capitalism”). And Penrose is probably senile — an old dude nearing the end of his life trying to capture the spotlight once more with speculations — and some sort of hopium in an afterlife in the quantum realm as he reaches the end of his life. Facing death is a difficult challenge for many.

  3. This YouTube show, The Why Files, is intended to be a way to explore paranormal events, conspiracy theories and other weird phenomena in a non-judgmental and entertaining way. The format is to present the alleged event or theory and then go into whether there is evidence to support or debunk the theory or alleged phenomenon.

As Rod Serling said, you can have an alien in a story say something that would be too controversial for a human character to say. The fish in this show is a device that serves the same purpose.

For someone like me who grew up enjoying Unsolved Mysteries, I enjoy a show like this. Apparently my attempt to meld my various interests into this post didn’t go over well. Lol.

    1. You shouldn’t worry about testing the bounds and interests of your audience – not a bad thing to do now and then. Yves Smith does it all the time on Nakedcapitalism — sometime with a “heads up”. As a physicist I love science — but also love science fiction and fantasy, although I rarely read it anymore as I play catch up with history and political economics. I also enjoy attempting to debunk what I think is non-science, fake-news, propaganda, and political discourse. Sometimes I’m proven correct, and sometimes not — and when I’m not, I’ve learned something.

  4. 42 thousand years ago there was a magnetic pole reversal called the Laschamp event. During a pole reversal the earth’s magnetic field weakens considerably allowing increased solar radiation to reach the surface. ‘Normally’ the magnetic field shields the earth from a good portion of this radiation. The weakened field persisted for centuries, and we know this because radiocarbon studies on ancient kauri logs from New Zealand show a very large and persistent spike in radiocarbon during this time. Radiocarbon, or C14, is produced in the upper atmosphere by solar radiation. It has been proposed that some of the fantastic cave art was produced at a time when early humans took shelter in caves to minimize the effects of increased radiation. We also know that magnetic pole reversals have occurred periodically throughout earth’s history – as shown by the polarity reversals in oceanic crust that were used to prove the theory of plate tectonics.

Additionally, cosmic events like supernovae occasionally bathe the earth with increased levels of radiation of various types.

While the presenter (and the channel) are annoying, the basic proposition is very likely true. Life on earth has survived and adapted to an amazing variety of circumstances, and our genetic code preserves the record of these things ‘purposely’ I guess one could say.
