The U.S. still relies on Russia for a quarter of its nuclear fuel purchases: Despite all the headlines about US-led global sanctions on Russia, U.S. nuclear industry remains heavily dependent on Moscow for the enriched uranium that fuels reactors, according to Bloomberg. U.S. reactor operators bought about 3.28 million separative work units, or SWUs, of Russian enrichment services in 2025, equal to almost 26% of their total purchases, according to EIA’s data cited by this news agency.
